Miniature SCARA robot is 7.7 mm diameter with high torque and high precision.
This video shows New Scale Technologies’ custom, high-torque rotary motors configured in a two-stage optical fiber positioner called the Cobra Fiber positioner. It’s a miniature SCARA robot only 7.7 mm in diameter. Developed for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Labs, it will automatically align optical fibers in the Subaru Telescope Prime Focus Spectrograph to collect light from individual astronomical targets in the telescope’s field of view.
