Victor, NY - December 20, 2007 - In its third
industry award this year, New Scale Technologies was a runner-up in
the “Best of Small Tech” awards sponsored by Small Times Magazine.
The company’s tiny piezoelectric SQUIGGLE motor was one of five
finalists in the “Application Product of the Year” category. The
winning product was a micro-machined set of silicon pin tools for
printing DNA or protein microarrays.
The Best of Small Tech awards honor significant achievements in
leadership and product development in nanotechnology, MEMS
(micro-electro-mechanical systems) and micro-systems. New Scale’s
SQUIGGLE motor enables high-precision motion in a wide range of
micro-systems, from tiny optical assemblies to microfluidic pumps
for lab-on-a-chip systems.
“With the extraordinary growth and development of
micro/nanotechnology in the past year, your achievement is truly
significant and richly deserved,” said Barbara Goode, editor in
chief of Small Times.
Winners were selected by the Small Times staff and a select group
of experts from industry and academia. 2007. More details can be
found in the January/February 2008 issue or at
Small Times online.
“Each year it gets more and more difficult to judge the best and
brightest as the micro and nanotechnology market continues to mature
and new products come to market,” said Christine Shaw, Senior Vice
President and Group Publisher of Small Times. “It is an honor to
recognize the leading companies, and business and research
executives who are driving integration of nanotechnology into the
commercial pipeline.”

Small Times magazine is a
business publication covering the fast-emerging nanotechnology, MEMS,
and microsystems markets. Founded in 2001, it is the leading source
of news and analysis about micro and nanotechnology and MEMS,
detailing technological advances, applications, and investment
opportunities to help business leaders stay informed and make
critical decisions.
About New Scale Technologies
New Scale Technologies (www.newscaletech.com) creates disruptively small
motion systems based on our patented piezoelectric SQUIGGLE® motor, the world’s
smallest linear motor. This ultrasonic motor is smaller, more precise, less
expensive, more robust and more power-efficient than other micro motors. We
create complete motion systems integrating SQUIGGLE motor technology with
supporting electronics (ASICs) developed in partnership with austriamicrosystems (www.austriamicrosystems.com).
New Scale’s micro motors and micro-actuator modules enable design engineers
to create smaller products including mobile phone cameras, electronic locks and
intelligent fasteners, nano-scale fluid control including lab-on-a-chip systems,
medical devices including miniature drug pumps and endoscopes, optics and
imaging systems, automotive modules, lasers, aerospace and defense systems,
cryogenic and MRI-compatible instruments, and consumer electronics including
micro fuel cells.
