Victor, NY - November 6, 2007 - New Scale Technologies’
patented piezoelectric SQUIGGLE motor captured top honors in the
2007 “Golden Mousetrap” awards, the company announced today. The
annual awards are presented by leading industry journal Design News
to recognize engineering innovation and creativity in product
design.
The linear SQUIGGLE motor was cited for its tiny size, high
push force, accuracy and precision. The simplicity of its unique
ultrasonic design was also noted: A SQUIGGLE motor has just seven
parts, compared to electromechanical stepper motors and gear systems
that contain dozens of components.
Design News editors selected 75
finalists and 16 winners from “a record number” of entries in
electronics; motion control and automation; hardware and software;
and materials, fastening, joining and assembly. Other winners in the
motion control and automation category were Siemens Energy &
Automation and U.S. Digital Corp.
"The Golden Mousetrap Awards
recognize excellence and innovation across the key coverage areas
for Design News readers," said Design News editor-in-chief John
Dodge. "The winners embody the enthusiasm, excellence and excitement
of design engineering that is conveyed on the print and web pages of
Design News."

About New Scale Technologies
New Scale Technologies (www.newscaletech.com) creates disruptively small
motion systems based on our patented piezoelectric SQUIGGLE® motor, the world’s
smallest linear motor, and TRACKER™ position sensor. The ultrasonic SQUIGGLE motor
is smaller, more precise, less expensive, more robust and more power-efficient
than other micro motors. The TRACKER position sensor integrates a magnetic sensor
with on-chip digital encoder, for smaller size and higher resolution than miniature
optical encoders. We create complete motion systems integrating micro motor and sensor
technology with supporting electronics (ASICs) developed with our partner
austriamicrosystems.
New Scale’s micro motors, encoders and micro-actuator modules enable design engineers
to create smaller products including mobile phone cameras, electronic locks and
intelligent fasteners, nano-scale fluid control including lab-on-a-chip systems,
medical devices including miniature drug pumps and endoscopes, optics and
imaging systems, automotive modules, lasers, aerospace and defense systems,
cryogenic and MRI-compatible instruments, and consumer electronics including
micro fuel cells.
SQUIGGLE is a registered trademark and TRACKER and New Scale Pathway are trademarks of New Scale Technologies, Inc.
