MRI-compatible syringe pump demonstrated

Researchers at Roswell Park Cancer Institute use piezoelectric SQUIGGLE motor to administer contrast agent during MRI scans without image artifact

July 26, 2007 - Victor, NY - New Scale Technologies, Inc. today announced that an MRI-compatible drug delivery pump based on its piezoelectric SQUIGGLE motor has been successfully demonstrated by researchers at Roswell Park Cancer Institute of Buffalo, NY.

The unique design of the patented SQUIGGLE motor allowed the drug delivery pump to be placed near the subject during scanning, enabling precise delivery of low doses of MRI contrast media in real time during data acquisition. The SQUIGGLE motor was unaffected by the strong magnetic fields of the MRI system, and did not produce artifacts in the MRI image during operation.

A description of the drug delivery pump, MRI environment and test results was published in the April issue of Bioscience Technology.
