Wireless industry veteran Ted Franceschi has joined the board of directors of New Scale Technologies, Inc.
(http://www.newscaletech.com), to spearhead the company’s business development efforts in the mobile phone
camera market. Franceschi will focus on building partnerships with handset manufacturers and their suppliers,
resulting in high-volume integration of New Scale’s patented SQUIGGLE motor into auto focus and optical zoom
assemblies for next-generation handsets.
“This is a huge opportunity for New Scale, with worldwide sales of camera phones projected to grow from 500
million this year to 900 million in 2009,” Franceschi said. “New Scale’s unique motor, with its tiny size and
low battery power consumption, can give those phone cameras a picture quality that rivals today’s high-end digital
cameras. It’s a perfect example of innovative technology aligning with consumer demand.”

Franceschi is currently an “Entrepreneur-in-Residence” at the non-profit Technology Enterprise Center of High
Tech Rochester, and invested in New Scale as part of its recent series A funding.
“Ted has extensive experience in forming profitable business partnerships in the wireless and semiconductor
industries, and we are extremely pleased to have his expertise on our board as we pursue the mobile phone camera
market,” said New Scale founder and CEO David Henderson.
Franceschi was previously Executive Vice President and General Manager of licensing at audio technology company
SRS Labs (NASDAQ:SRSL), where he negotiated with global primary accounts, headed a third-party partnership
program with 30 semiconductor companies, and oversaw sales that more than doubled in three years. Prior to
that he was Chief Operating Officer of fabless RF semiconductor firm Betheltronix, Inc., where he championed
OEM, development and licensing agreements with top semiconductor manufacturers and signed industry-leading
representative organizations to the company’s global sales network. Franceschi has 20 years’ earlier experience
in strategic sales and marketing at Toshiba America Electronic Components, culminating as Senior Vice President
of Business Development with responsibility for 16 product lines and $2.5 billion in sales.
