New Scale Technologies signs agreement with Biophan (OTCBB: BIPH) for worldwide distribution for medical applications.

SQUIGGLE™ Ceramic Motors Offer Unique Advantages for Multi-Billion Dollar Drug Delivery Market

June 4, 2004 - Victor, NY - New Scale Technologies announced today a worldwide distribution agreement with Biophan Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: BIPH), a Rochester, NY-based company, for distribution of our new ceramic SQUIGGLE motor to the multi-billion dollar drug delivery market.

The SQUIGGLE motor is a new and patent-pending technology that meets the growing demand for high-performance subminiature actuators. “We offer a better choice for medical device companies than need to make their products smaller with greater precision, higher reliability and lower cost.” stated David Henderson, President of New Scale.

The SQUIGGLE motor uses piezoelectric ceramic technology which can be made very small while still providing long range, high force, nanometer precision, high-efficiency and low-cost. The SQUIGGLE motor is currently on the market generating revenues and is available for OEM integration today.

As part of the exclusive distribution agreement, Biophan will provide sales and marketing to the medical device industry on behalf of New Scale and will also make a small minority investment in the company.

“We are delighted to create this partnership with Biophan. Their experience and knowledge of medical device companies and applications helps us focus our product development and accelerate our business plan.” Henderson said.

“This motor offers several advantages for driving drug pumps, as well as for other applications,” stated Michael Weiner, CEO of Biophan. “Using only four parts (other motors can have as many as 100 parts), it provides a unique combination of high reliability, flexibility, and power consumption advantages. And, by using ceramic components and no windings, it is very compatible with MRI imaging.”

The SQUIGGLE motor uses no iron, permanent magnets or wire coils (the primary sources of image interference under MRI), is capable of both linear and rotational movement, and can move forward and backwards several inches at nanometer increments, thereby providing a controllable drug release environment.

About New Scale Technologies

New Scale Technologies makes miniature ceramic motors that enable our customers to create smaller products. Our patent-pending motors are bigger than MEMS devices but smaller than conventional motors. We generate precise movement using ultrasonic vibrations which makes our products powerful, simple, and compatible with extreme environments. Our SQUIGGLE motor uses piezoelectric actuators to vibrate a nut and directly rotate a mating screw in a tiny assembly with an order of magnitude fewer parts than conventional motors.
