Miniature OEM Motors

The World's Smallest Linear Motors for OEM Products

Tiny piezoelectric SQUIGGLE motors enable smaller OEM products, from consumer electronics to laboratory instruments. Their simple construction and higher power efficiency at small sizes make SQUIGGLE motors superior to conventional micro motors or other piezo motors for these applications. Features include:

  • Scalability to millimeters in size
  • Simple construction (7 parts) facilitates high-volume, low-cost manufacturing
  • Direct linear movement (no gears or cams) reduces part count in OEM product
  • Highly efficient piezoelectric actuators use power only when moving
  • Robust construction withstands high shock loads
  • Sub-micrometer precision
  • Silent, ultrasonic operation
  • Wide operating temperature range
  • Customizable for OEMs
  • Vacuum and cryogenic versions available

The SQL Series motor is a robust micro motor with smallest size and low battery power consumption. It is designed for for next-generation portable electronics, medical devices, electronic locks and intelligent fasteners.

The SQ-100-N Series motor, slightly larger than the SQL Series, offers higher precision and push force. It is designed for use in OEM instruments.

SQL Series SQUIGGLE Motors for Mobile and Ultra-Miniature Products

The tiny SQL Series SQUIGGLE motor offers greater power efficiency, higher reliability, and ten times better precision than electromagnetic motors. It is less than half the size of other piezo motors. It consists of seven parts in a simple, elegant design that can be produced at low unit cost in high volumes. This patented ultrasonic motor withstands high shock and offers millimeters of stroke.

New Scale designs and builds SQL Series motors in a wide range of styles and sizes. Standard evaluation models for OEMs are available now in 1.5 mm, 1.8 mm, and 6.8 mm standard body sizes.

Our engineering team will customize an SQL Series motor for your specific application. We work with you on mechanical and electrical integration into your system design, or we can help you create application-specific motor modules incorporating housing, drivers and position sensors.

SQ-100-N Series Motor for OEM Instruments

The SQ-100-N Series SQUIGGLE motor offers higher resolution and push force than the smaller SQL Series motor. It is designed for easy integration into compact OEM instruments, including laser systems, microscopes, and other scientific instruments.

The SQ-100-N drives axial loads of greater than 5 Newtons with 20 nm resolution. Like all SQUIGGLE motors, it generates no magnetic fields in operation and holds position with the power off.

SQ-100-N motors have a 7.4 mm diameter with travel range to 50 mm. Vacuum and non-magnetic models are available.

Motor Controllers

The SQL-1.5 and SQL-1.8 micro motor takes a square wave drive signal. The MC-3000 motor controller provides for easy motor evaluation in both open-loop and closed-loop operation. It also serves as a reference design for system integration. A PC user interface and ActiveX command library are included.

The SQL-2.4 and SQL-3.4 motors take a sine wave drive signal. They can be driven by the MC-1000 drive card, which is suitable for evaluation purposes as well as for integration into OEM instruments. A PC user interface and ActiveX command library are included. The SQ-2300 benchtop controller can also be used for evaluation. Both include a resonant amplifier and produce a sine wave output.

Ask for the application note “SQL Series SQUIGGLE Motor Drive Requirements” for more information on driving the SQL Series motors.
