SQUIGGLE motors allow design engineers to add motion features
into products where they could not have been imagined before. This
tiny linear drive system offers greater power
efficiency, higher reliability, and ten times better precision than
electromagnetic motors.

The SQL-RV-1.8 drive system consists of the new SQL-RV-1.8 "reduced
voltage" SQUIGGLE RV micro motor and the NSD-2101 piezo drive IC.
Together they create the world's smallest linear piezo motion
control system, with performance comparable to much larger systems.
State-of-the-art multi-layered piezo technology is combined with
advanced, smart integrated circuit design and patent-pending control
algorithms to create a breakthrough linear motion control system
with unparalleled performance.
The new "RV" version of this patented ultrasonic piezo motor and
driver introduces a number of industry firsts:
- Direct battery input as low as 2.3 VDC to the drive chip
with no external voltage boost circuitry required.
- Complete driver solution much smaller than motor and 5x
smaller than comparable systems.
- 40% lower power consumption than comparable electromagnetic
solutions.

All components can be easily removed for integration into your
prototype system.

System Specifications
The SQL-RV-1.8 and NSD-2101 drive IC provide a broad range of
performance over a range of input voltages. Refer to the data sheet
for motor force and speed as a function of input voltage to the
NSD-2101 driver IC, as well as the power required at various

Motor Driver and Development Platform
NSD-2101 piezo motor driver IC
The NSD-2101 piezo motor driver is only 1.8 x 1.8 mm in
wafer-level form (BGA package). It converts 2.3 to 5.5 VDC battery input directly
to high frequency AC power to control the SQL-RV SQUIGGLE motor.
Custom designed to drive the SQUIGGLE RV multi-layer motor, the NSD-2101 provides advanced proprietary features
such as frequency tracking and hybrid speed control to optimize
motor performance while minimizing power consumption over a broad
range of operating and environmental conditions. NSD-2101 accepts
commands from your system processor over a digital I2C serial
interface.
MC-3300 motor controller
The MC-3300-RV is a full-function motor controller ideal for system
evaluation and development. Connect it to a PC via via the USB
interface and use the New Scale Pathway Software (included) for evaluation
and embedded system development.
The MC-3300-RV accepts position input from New Scale's TRACKER
position sensors or from other digital or analog position sensors.

The MC-3300-RV
mother board includes the processor, 12-bit A/D converter for analog
position feedback, digital differential quadrature feedback, I2C
feedback for TRACKER position sensors, and a USB interface. The MC-33DB-RV daughter board contains
two motor driver ASICs, capacitors and motor connectors. It is
easily removed from the mother board when direct input via I2C
interface is desired. Both the daughter board (MC-33DB-RV)
and ASIC (NSD-2101) are available separately for integration
into OEM systems.
New Scale Pathway Software and development platform
New Scale Pathway™ Software is a flexible and
sophisticated tool for rapid evaluation of New Scale motors,
sensors and motion systems. Its power and ease of use speed product
design, system integration and performance validation.
An easy-to-use, "point and
click" graphical user interface allows you to interactively operate New Scale
motors, sensors and motion systems by selecting tabs, entering
values in boxes (speed, step, frequency, etc.) and clicking
graphical buttons (jog, run, etc.). All features are accessible
using mouse and keyboard.
The software also features a powerful script generator that enables
you to create and run automated commands and sequences for almost
any motion control task. The script editor is fast, flexible and
easy to use, even by non-programmers.

Developer's Kits
SQL-RV motor Developer's Kits
provide a convenient platform for initial evaluation through
prototype integration of the SQUIGGLE RV motion system. The
open-loop Developer's Kit contains one SQL-RV motor, the New Scale
Pathway PC Software and MC-3300-RV motor controller containing two
NSD-2101 ICs. This system can be used to control up to two SQL-RV
motors.
The Closed-Loop Developer's Kit also incorporates one TRK-1T02
TRACKER NSE-5310 miniature position encoder.

The motor, encoder and controller can be easily removed from the Developer's
Kits for integration into your prototype.
