SQL-3.4 Series
SQUIGGLE Micro Motors for OEMs
Micro motors for compact instruments and other products
SQL-3.4 Series SQUIGGLE motors are designed for easy integration into compact OEM
instruments, including laser systems, microscopes, and other
scientific instruments.
These piezoelectric micro motors offer higher push force and
longer travel than our smallest (SQL-RV-1.8
series) motors. Like all SQUIGGLE motors, they offer greater power
efficiency, higher reliability, and ten times better precision than
electromagnetic motors.
Features include:
- Less than 7 millimeters diameter in size
- 0.5 μm resolution
- 200 grams stall force
- Simple construction for high-volume, low-cost manufacturing
- Direct linear movement with no gears or cams
- Self-locking and uses power only when moving
- Robust construction withstands high shock loads
- Silent, ultrasonic operation
- Wide operating temperature range
- Customizable for OEMs
- Vacuum and cryogenic versions available
Evaluation packs
SQL-3.4 micro motor
evaluation packs include one SQUIGGLE motor,
a TRACKER position sensor (closed-loop kits only), controller board, cables, and New Scale Pathway™
Software: a flexible and sophisticated software platform that
enables rapid evaluation of New Scale motors, sensors and motion
systems.
Once you've determined that SQUIGGLE motors are right for your application we can
provide motors in quantity, create customized micro motors, or design application-specific modules
(including drive electronics and
miniature position sensors) to
fit your OEM requirements. See our
custom engineering page for more information.

MC-1100 OEM Motor Controller
The MC-1100 controller is a credit-card sized drive card for the
SQL-3.4 Series SQUIGGLE motors. It is designed for easy integration into OEM systems such as medical, laser, optical, and laboratory instruments.
Frequency tracking integrated into the board optimizes motor
performance with minimal power by compensating for motor frequency
variation, which can result from temperature or load variations.
Each MC-1100 motor controller drives one motor.
Multiple drive cards can be controlled from a single computer screen
using the New Scale Pathway Software provided.
The MC-1100 can be used in
open-loop or closed-loop configuration. When using the MC-1100
controller in an open-loop configuration, you can calibrate a
motor’s average step size in
response to a number of drive pulses. For closed-loop operation, the
MC-1100 incorporates a 10-bit A/D converter and also accepts digital
position feedback signals directly to the RS-422 input. We recommend
closed-loop operation when repeatable step size, absolute position
or precise velocity control is needed.

New Scale Pathway Software
New Scale Pathway™ Software is a flexible and
sophisticated tool for rapid evaluation of New Scale motors,
sensors and motion systems. Its power and ease of use speed product
design, system integration and performance validation.
An easy-to-use, "point and
click" graphical user interface allows you to interactively operate New Scale
motors, sensors and motion systems by selecting tabs, entering
values in boxes (speed, step, frequency, etc.) and clicking
graphical buttons (jog, run, etc.). All features are accessible
using mouse and keyboard.
The software also features a powerful script generator that enables
you to create and run automated commands and sequences for almost
any motion control task. The script editor is fast, flexible and
easy to use, even by non-programmers.
