Motorized Positioning Stages

Piezo Motors Enable Tiny Closed-Loop Nanopositioning Stages

New Scale’s closed-loop linear stages and multi-axis positioning systems feature integral SQUIGGLE motors to provide unmatched precision in a very compact and precise design.

The stages support vertical loads of 200 to 500 grams with high stiffness and negligible heating. They are ideal for hands-free, “set and hold” positioning where space is at a premium, such as in optical microscopy, automated laser alignment, and biomedical research.

New Scale closed-loop stages are easily assembled into multi-axis (X-Y and X-Y-Z) nanopositioning systems.

The SQL-3405 is the smallest closed-loop positioning stage on the market. Its long 5 mm travel range provides for automated positioning without manual pre-alignment.

The SQ-2115 is a 20-nm resolution closed-loop stage that integrates a piezoelectric SQUIGGLE motor with crossed roller bearings and glass scale encoder.


Motorized Stage Drive Electronics

We offer both benchtop controllers for laboratory use, and credit-card sized PCB drive cards for easy integration into OEM systems and instruments. Controllers accept analog input, an optional manual handset, or computer interface. We provide intuitive control software, along with an ActiveX control that you can integrate into your own applications written in languages such as C++ or Visual Basic. Commercial Positioning Stages with Piezo Motor Drive

A SQUIGGLE motor can directly replace the manual micrometer in many commercial linear stages. A light spring preload is required to hold a flat surface on the moving stage against the tip of the motor’s lead screw. A knob on the motor allows for manual screw rotation and stage positioning.
